1) Molecular Layering essay has been published

The essay by Malygin et al. has been published in Chemical Vapor Deposition. This might very well be the single most important publication coming out from VPHA. I am very greatful for the authors for writing this work and congratulate them for the achievement!

2) Questions for the ALD History Review: deadline Jan 10

A bit similarly as was made for the ML essay, we are now collecting questions regarding the ALD History Review (Item #10 in http://vph-ald.com/Publication%20Plan.html). The deadline for giving questions is January 10. There are some questions already. Everyone’s participation is appreciated; please think of questions you would like to have answered, and add them as comments to the fileALD-history-review-questions (you find the link in http://vph-ald.com/VPHAopenfiles.html ), or send them by email to me, to add to the file.

3) New participants to join the VPHA ALD 2016 Ireland abstract: deadline Feb 7

At the moment, the ALD-history-evolving-file has 41 co-authors. There is still a lot to read, and more authors are warmly welcome. To be incorporated as an author in the abstract to ALD 2016, one needs to give one’s first comment to ALD-history-evolving-file latest on February 7. After this, it will be still possible to join the reading, only one’s name will not appear in the abstract (it will be in the final presentation).

The current abstract draft is as follows. No changes have come since the proposal on Dec 7, so this is likely to be the final abstract, unless we need to shorten it to fit in the abstract submission systems.

4) New co-authors welcome to the ALD history review

Planning for the VPHA’s scientific ALD History Review is slowly beginning. If there are people who would like to be co-authors of the work but did not get the first co-authors email, please contact me.

As said earlier, each co-author should give at least 20 comments to the ALD-history-evolving file, and participate in the writing of the review. Also, one should realize that the work will be challenging, as we need to find words where all co-authors from different backgrounds and geographic locations can agree with. Always remembering the principles of Openness, Respect, and Trust, I am confident that we can complete the work together and create a very valuable review article.

5) History of ALD terminology

One of the topics to write about in the ALD History Review is the history of ALD terminology. That, again, can be a topic of broader discussion. We are activating discussion in the ALD - Atomic Layer Deposition LinkedIn group regarding terminology. Already we started with discussion on the origin and of the name “Atomic Layer Deposition” itself. There has been some lively discussion already, you can follow and participate in it through this link: https://www.linkedin.com/groups/1885076/1885076-6089768100834656258

6) VPHA in numbers - positive progress and still a lot to do

At the moment, the VPHA numbers are as follows:
  • The number of VPHA co-authors is 41
  • We come from 12 countries
  • Number of articles listed: 350
  • Number of comments given: 402
  • Number of comments still needed: 664

There has been positive progress, for example, as the number of comments given has increased by 35 in the last 1.5 months. This progress has been thanks to the reading of a few active individuals. I hope that more people will join this proactive reading --- instructions are in in the VPHA-reading-workflow, to which (and other working files) you find a link through: http://vph-ald.com/VPHAopenfiles.html.
