VPHA ALD doctoral thesis list to be completed to the status of end of 2018

In VPHA, we have in the past years been building a list of doctoral theses related to atomic layer deposition (ALD). The list currently contains already over 350 entries - nice draft illustration of the contents of the unfinished list below - thanks Felix Mattelaer for this!
 

It would be great, of course, if we could have a complete list - the whole research field of ALD would greatly benefit. There are certainly many theses missing from the list still - likely at least from China, Japan, Korea, and likely many other countries, too. We have set it as a goal to finalize the list in VPHA to the status at the end of year 2018, the year Suntola and ALD received the Millennium Technology Prize.

To complete the list, we welcome everyone to check if the list is complete and propose additions.

ALD thesis list contains 297 entries - which ones are missing?

During the last months, we have in VPHA been collecting a list of ALD theses made worldwide. At ALD 2016, I discussed with many professors and researchers, who agreed to check the theses list what comes to their own labs/universities. To make it easy to spot the missing ones, the number of PhD-equivalent theses per country is collected in the table below, and the thesis list (including also "professor's theses") is shown below, ordered per country.

In March 2016 (post here), there were 274 PhD-equivalent theses listed; now, there are 297. How many would we be missing still? I believe that there are theses missing still at least from USA (the George group, @GeorgeGroupCU), Belgium (IMEC/KU Leuven) and Japan, and probably from other countries/universities, too. The full thesis info can be seen in the VPHA-ALD-thesis-list. When you spot missing info, you can write the additions directly in the file VPHA-thesis-to-be-added.

ALD thesis list now 274 entries - still many missing?

In the previous posts (latest here), I overviewed the status of the VPHA reading. In this post, I review the status of the ALD thesis list, and I am glad to conclude that there has been significant progress in the last weeks. 

The total number of PhD-equivalent theses listed at the moment is 274. (The previous post, Feb 29, listed 226.) The next figures show (1) how the number of PhD-equivalent theses listed in the VPHA-ALD-thesis-list has increased with time, and (2) how many theses we have at the moment listed per country. Since the previous post, theses have been added e.g. from Finland, France, Germany, South Korea, Sweden, The Netherlands, Turkey, UK, USA. Thanks for everyone who has contributed by adding information on missing theses!

The list in the end of this post contains the thesis list sorted per country (both PhD-equivalents plus "professor's theses). The list has been created from the parent file VPHA-ALD-thesis-list, which contains more information per thesis than the short list below, most importantly, the title of the thesis, language, etc. I know that there are still many theses missing at least from Belgium, Germany and Japan and probably many other countries, too. If you notice missing items, please add the info directly here in the file called VPHA-thesis-to-be-added. You find links to these and other VPHA open working files through http://vph-ald.com/VPHAopenfiles.html.  

ALD thesis list has 226 entries - Many still missing?

VPHA-ALD-thesis-list has been growing, at the moment it contains 226 PhD-equivalent entries. The image below shows how these theses are distributed per country. The previous post on the topic on Feb 12 listed 187 PhD-equivalent theses, so almost forty have been added since then, especially from Estonia, Poland, Sweden, and the Netherlands. Thank you for everyone who has provided information! 

At the end of the post, there is a list of theses sorted per country, to easily spot which ones are missing from your country. ("Professor's theses", not counted in PhD-equivalents, are included in this list.) I am sure that many theses are still missing at least from Germany, Japan, Norway, Korea, UK, and USA, and probably from some other countries, too. Please help us complete the list of theses and add missing items directly here. 

As mentioned earlier, the list will be used in the VPHA ALD History Review article, #10 in the VPHA Publication Plan.

ALD thesis list grows, now 187 - which are missing?

The list of PhD theses on ALD is growing. In the figure you see the current number of theses listed per country. At the moment, the total number is 187. The previous post, Feb 3, listed 159, so the number has been nicely growing.

Although the list is already sizeable, most likely tens of theses are still missing, at least from Germany, Japan, Norway, Poland, Korea, Turkey, and UK, and probably from many other countries. Everyone's help is appreciated for building a list that is as complete as possible. Please check the theses from your country, and if you note that your/you colleague's thesis is missing, please add the info directly in this file (it is a Google docs file called VPHA-thesis-to-be-added, you can find a link to the file through the page http://vph-ald.com/VPHAopenfiles.html). To make it easier to find missing items per country, the current list has been sorted per country and is shown below in a shortened form: year - author - university - city - country. (The below list includes also the "professor's theses", which are not counted in the number of PhD-equivalents.)

ALD thesis list is growing - which are missing?

An earlier post announced that in VPHA we are building a worldwide list of doctoral theses on ALD. The collection is made in a file called VPHA-ALD-thesis-list. We are also collecting links to the electronic thesis documents (when available), which makes the list especially valuable. Currently, the list contains 159 items from different countries. Twenty five (25) theses have already been added since the previous post on January 19. The detailed situation is shown per country in the histogram below.

My feeling is that tens of theses would be missing still. Estonia? Germany? Sweden? USA? ... It would be greatly appreciated if VPHA participants and other ALD scientists around the world would check the list and add missing items. To have a thesis added, please write the thesis info directly in the VPHA-thesis-to-be-added file; we will periodically check this and move added items to the full list. You find a link to it in the VPHA-ALD-thesis-list and also through the webpage http://vph-ald.com/VPHAopenfiles.html.

Under construction in VPHA: ALD Thesis List

Working towards the VPHA ALD History Review (Item #10 in the VPHA Publication Plan), we have in VPHA started to build a list of doctoral theses on ALD worldwide. We do this in file "VPHA-ALD-thesis-list", you find a link at http://vph-ald.com/VPHAopenfiles.html. It is a challenge, and perhaps impossible, to create a complete list. Nevertheless, we will give it a try.

As the first step, information already collected on the Finnish and Soviet/Russian theses was combined (sources: FinALD40 exhibition, ML essay)---thank you Oksana for doing this. Currently, the list contains 134 doctoral theses. Next step is to update the list with theses from other countries: for example, Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Estonia, Germany, France, Korea, India, Japan, Norway, Sweden, The Netherlands, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States...  (excuses already for the countries missing from the list).
